Jewish Memorials

jewish memorialLiverpool’s Jewish community is one of the oldest in Britain, dating back to the 1770s. Sarsfield Memorials is not quite as old but we are a family business spanning three generations that was established in the 1940s. This means we understand what is required when members of the Jewish community approach us for a headstone.

As Jewish tradition dictates that  all are equal in death and that mourning should only be for a limited period we are aware that the Jewish headstones are relatively modest. We require the family to let us have the Hebrew wording, some families will provide this themselves whilst others will ask their Rabbi for it. No matter who provides us with the Hebrew we will always seek final approval by the Rabbi who works within the congregation that the memorial will be fixed, so that at the unveiling we can have piece of mind that all the details for the lettering are correct.Jewish gravestone

We can provide a gravestone whether it be an upright memorial, recumbent memorial or in some cases just a simple headstone and base. We can also match up a memorial to an existing memorial and if required the original headstone can be refurbished so when the new stone is unveiled the original stone will look at it’s best again.

Jewish headstoneSarsfield’s can also provide a range of kerbsets and slab covers to accompany the gravestone, to ensure that nobody walks across the grave which is forbidden in Jewish custom. Our skilled masons inscribe lettering in both Hebrew and English using traditional methods to more modern techniques, all resulting in quality workmanship.
